We stay in casas particulares, intimate family-run homes with three to four bedrooms. Rooms are vibrant and simply furnished, with air conditioning and private bathrooms. Expect stairs rather than lifts, occasional power cuts, unreliable internet and temperamental hot water; some owners offer laundry and pets may be present.
